“TAPESTRIES OF HOPE” is supported by Freshwater Haven, a non-profit 501c3, created to foster education among children and adults about child abuse.

Every year thousands of girls in Zimbabwe are forced into marriage, abuse, sexual assault and trafficking.  This abuse is mirrored everywhere in Africa, a continent so large that it struggles for a voice.  Betty Makoni, founder of the Girl Child Network (GCN) works to empower girls in Zimbabwe, to free them from abuse and allow them to have the same opportunities in life as boys. GCN has built three safe empowerment villages for vulnerable girls and started 500 girls’ clubs with 30,000+ members, mostly in rural areas and in poor townships.   GCN’s goals are to provide girls with food, clothes, medical care, a home, safety, and the opportunity to go to school. Above all, GCN strives to give girls the courage and strength to demand respect for their rights.  This necklace is designed with the hope that we can create a better future for all girls of Africa.

  Fresh Water Spigot’s non-profit organization, Freshwater Haven, has teamed up with jewelry designer Janelle Gibson to bring support and awareness to the lives of Betty Makoni and the young girls of the Girl Child Network. Janelle Gibson has been an advocate for supporting women all over the world through her “Pendant Project” and has dedicated one of her pieces to Freshwater Haven’s work with the “Tapestries of Hope” and the Girl Child Network.

This sterling silver pendant is roughly square in shape and titled “FUTURE.” Each 3/4 inch square is strung on either a black or brown leather cord and has “Future” engraved on one of the sides.

This bracelet was designed by Louie Greeff of South Africa.  The coral beads represent the child, the black beads represent those who attempt to do harm to the children, and the white beads represent angels who protect the girls.
All profits from the purchase of the “FUTURE” Jewelry will go directly towards creating additional awareness and support to the Girl Child Network.
